Justin Tran

Justin is a PhD student at the University of California, Riverside. He holds a B.A. in anthropology with a focus in archaeology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Justin has worked on archaeological projects in Belize and Guatemala, conducting settlement surveys of the ancient Maya site of El Pilar. His research focuses on how the ancient Maya used and managed natural resources such as water, food, and construction material. Methodologically, Justin primarily works with spatial data and Geographic Information Systems, making use of remote sensing data like LiDAR imagery to conduct archaeological site analyses.
In the summer of 2024, Justin participated in the Plaza of the Columns Complex Project in Front D, with the aim of strengthening his skills in archaeological excavation and fieldwork. In the future, Justin will conduct his graduate research at the site of El Palmar in Campeche to further study ancient Maya resource use with a focus on water management.
